Resilient, Relentless, Real: The Unfiltered Leadership Playbook of Nash Shaikh

In today’s corporate world, where resilience, strategic leadership, and authenticity are indispensable, Nash Shaikh emerges as a powerful voice. As Chief of Staff to the President & CEO at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, a Stanford GSB LEAD alumna, board member, and founder of the Power of N podcast, Nash’s career is a testament to grit, purpose, and the unstoppable spirit of women leaders.

🌱 Her Story: Breaking Barriers From India to the C-Suite

Growing up in a traditional Muslim family in India, Nash’s opportunities were limited — but her ambition wasn’t. In a community where women seldom stepped beyond conventional roles, Nash defied expectations.

“The only way girls came out of the community was if they got married… the only time a passport was made was when their husband was abroad,” Nash recalls.

Her first international assignment to the U.S. was a milestone not just for her, but for every girl back home. The words her mother whispered as she left still fuel her every move:

“You’re the first one — make sure you’re not the last.”

From global HR systems implementations (Workday, SAP, SuccessFactors) to strategic leadership roles, Nash built a rich professional portfolio, constantly evolving from individual contributor to strategic partner at the C-suite table.

🎙️ Power of N: Redefining Networking & Women’s Narratives

Nash isn’t just an executive leader — she’s also the voice behind Power of N, a podcast born from her Stanford GSB Power to Lead course. The podcast dives into the myths of networking and building connections, featuring candid conversations with women leaders about their journeys, struggles, and wins.

The “N” stands for Networking — a skill often misunderstood as transactional but which Nash reframes as authentic connection.

“People think networking is manipulative or transactional. It isn’t. It’s just connection. It’s about authenticity, about asking how you can help the other person, not what you can take from them.” she explains

Through her show, Nash interviews leaders — many of whom are introverts — who share how networking has transformed their careers in unexpected ways. From chance meetings in airports to conversations over shared languages, these stories reveal that networking is about connection, not charisma.

🤝 Mentorship That Matters: How She Builds Others Up

Nash’s philosophy is rooted in mentorship and community upliftment. She actively supports women through informal guidance, leadership boards, and community initiatives.

“It takes 30 seconds to check in on someone. Send text or mail — whatever it takes. Build genuine, two-way relationships.”

She also reminds aspiring professionals:

“Anybody can be a mentor. Some of my mentors don’t even know they are my mentors.”

Nash believes giving back is a leadership imperative. She’s active on the Blue Cross Foundation Board and Habitat for Humanity, and she dreams of one-day founding schools for orphaned girls in both India and the U.S.

🔥 Resilience Through Hardship

She frames hardships not as obstacles but as personal growth accelerators:

“I look at hardships as life’s training ground. Yes, it’s painful, but those moments teach you what no success ever can.”

Her story of defying cultural expectations to build a life in corporate America remains one of her proudest milestones.

🧘‍♀️ Finding Balance in Chaos

Between executive meetings and podcast interviews, Nash centres herself with yoga and meditation.

“In the morning, I do yoga and reflect on how my day should go. At night, I reflect on how it went. It calms me down.”

She’s also learned to reframe stress:

“When my kids get on my nerves, I tell myself — I’m lucky to have kids bothering me. It changes your entire perspective.”

🌟 Leadership Wisdom: Lessons That Resonate

Nash’s leadership style is shaped by empathy, foresight, and a relentless pursuit of growth. Here are some of her favourite principles:

Jump at opportunities — don’t wait to be 100% ready.

“There is no job you will be a 100% fit for. Jump when the opportunity arises.”

Think five moves ahead. Always position yourself for the role you want next.

“When I was an individual contributor, I thought like a manager. As a manager, I thought like a director. Now as a director, I think like a VP. Always position yourself for the role you want next.”

Network with authenticity. It’s not a one-way street.

You have to think about what you’re going to give back too

Define your success. Create a personal definition of purpose and impact.

Give back. Whether through mentorship, community service, or advocacy, ensure your leadership has a meaningful impact.

“As a woman, when you get to a position of power, you make sure you open the door for others too.”

💥 What’s Next for Nash? COO Ambitions & A Life of Purpose

While Nash continues to thrive as Chief of Staff, she’s set her sights on an even bigger goal: becoming a Chief Operating Officer. But beyond titles, Nash is driven by a profound sense of purpose.

“I’m working on finding my ‘why’ — the reason for my existence. And whatever that is, I’ll make sure it impacts others positively.” She adds “The world’s moving fast — your footsteps might not leave a trail, but your impact will.”

Long term, she dreams of founding a school for orphaned girls, both in India and the U.S., providing the kind of education that transformed her own life.

  1. Thanks Pournima for highlighting the life journey of our dear friend Nash Shaikh.
I am proud of her achievements over the years. I connected with her more when she was a president of India Association of Minnesota in 2019 when we were celebrating 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi in Minnesota via IAM. She was in full force and ideas to make it one of the best and inspirational celebration in Minnesota.
I am following her and her family since then. As a president of Habitat for the Humanity she accomplished a lot.
Wishing and hoping that her dream of COO comes true. I have no doubt about that dream she would be able to fulfill.
    Thanks again.
